Vitamins, 'Roids & Supplements

Whether you want to beef up or slim down, it's important to remember that moderation is the key.  Too much too soon can cause irreparable damage to your body, both on the inside and outside.

Daily vitamins are a great source of nutrition but it’s really easy to overload on them.  Some vitamins, like A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, which means if you take too much, your body can't get rid of them. It's possible to store them in your body to the point of toxicity.

Steroids are artificial hormones that boost testosterone in the body to increase stamina, muscle size and strength.  When using steroids, your body decreases its own hormone levels, leaving you with side effects like hypertension, cardiovascular disease, acne, hair loss and even loss of sex drive.

Supplements are used to diet and improve physical performance. Most are not regulated by the FDA which means you may not be getting what it says on the bottle.  Some supplements contain large quantities of other substances that can cause major side effects, like kidney and cardiovascular damage.

If you eat healthfully, you can get the vitamins and minerals you need from the food you eat. If you want to take supplements, it's best to do so with the help of a medical professional. In general, avoid taking more than the recommended dose of anything, so read the labels or consult a doctor for the proper dosage.
