Social Buzz or Buzz Kill?
When Friday night rolls around, it's time to party and break out the stash, but sometimes the party carries on through Sunday and then to Monday night. How do you know if your casual party habits are starting to become problematic? Take a few minutes to look through this checklist and decide for yourself.
- Do you drink or use other drugs to relieve stress or physical tension?
- Do most of your friends drink and/or get high?
- Do you frequently find that your conversation centers on drug or drinking experiences?
- Do you experience any symptoms when deprived of alcohol or other drugs? (shakes, headache, sweating, insomnia, depression, mood swings, loss of appetite)
- Do you often drink alcohol or use other drugs by yourself?
- Have you ever spent more money for alcohol or other drugs than you had intended to spend? Could this money have put to better use?
- Have you ever felt like nothing is more important than getting high (job, sex, partner)?
- Have you tried to quit, but find yourself drinking and/or using again "before you know it"?
- Are you in financial trouble due to alcohol/drugs?
- Have you experienced blackouts (lost time or memory) after alcohol or drug use where you cannot remember what you did the night/day/week before?
If you answered ‘yes’ to five or more questions, take a serious look at how much and how often you’re using and how it's affecting your life and the lives of your friends and family. Don’t let the good times turn into bad times.
