Magnet is now recruiting for all volunteer positions!


Magnet’s day to day operations depend heavily on our staff of dedicated volunteers. We could not provide many of the services we provide each day without the amazing volunteers that help us keep our doors open. The journey can be a challenge, but the rewards of becoming a Magnet volunteer are well worth it!

Socialite: Special Events Volunteer

Training Required: Minimal

Commitment: One special event (typically three to four hours in length) per month for a period of six months.

Role: Magnet hosts a wide array of community events when our clinic is not in operation. Our Socialites help with set up and serve as welcoming hosts during our events and then assist with tear down when the events are over.


Concierge: Clinic Reception Services Volunteer

Training Required: Moderate

Commitment: One three hour shift per week, three weeks per month, for a minimum of period of six months.

Role: Our Concierge volunteers assist our staff members by filing registration paper work and assembling client charts. This position requires great customer service skills and a knack for filing alphabetically.

Data Entry: Clerical & Data Entry Volunteer

Training Required: Moderate

Commitment: 2-4 shifts per month, for a minimum period of three months. Commitment to a specific weekly or biweekly day and time is required for this role.

Role: Our clerical and data entry volunteers assist our HIV/STI data manager and Director of Nursing in entering charts into our database. This is a non-client facing role. Most work is done on an individual basis. Self-motivation, strong attention to detail, and a passion for clerical work is a requirement for this position. 

HTC: HIV/STI Test Counselor Volunteer

Training Required: Extensive (60+ hours spanning 8-10 weeks)

Commitment: One four hour shift per week, two weeks per month, for a period of one year.

Role: This elite group provides client-centered guidance and support through the HIV testing and STI screening process. Those selected for this position must complete an extensive training program to become certified by the State of California to provide HIV counseling and testing. This training includes a required 4 week day training to be completed at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Training dates and details will be provided upon approval of the volunteer application.


RN/NP-HTC: Licensed Professional HIV/STI test counselor Volunteer-

Training Required: Extensive (60+ hours spanning 8-10 weeks)

Commitment: One four hour shift per week, two weeks per month, for a period of one year.

Role: In addition to completing the HIV/STI test counselor training program, Magnet’s licensed professional volunteers have the option to become providers of STI screening and treatment services under the supervision of Magnet’s Director of Nursing. Must possess a valid license to practice in the State of California, AHA-BLS Certification, and a valid California Driver’s License.


Community Health Volunteer:

Training Required: Minimal

Commitment: One three hour shift per week

Role: Our community health volunteers offer up massage, acupuncture, and/or other holistic health services free of charge for customers who are awaiting appointments. A valid license or certification to provide services is required for this position.

All new Magnet volunteers must complete a TB testing process and furnish proof of immunity to Hepatitis B (either natural or acquired) prior to beginning volunteer service. Don't worry, Magnet will help you with these items if need be.
