Why We're Special
Magnet's vision is to promote the physical, mental and social well-being of gay men. We reflect the diversity and values of gay men who live, work or play in the Castro, seeking the participation and support of gay men to create and sustain the health and well-being of our community.
In addition to providing sexual health services, Magnet holds on-going community activities including book readings, art exhibits, town hall forums and other social events. We bring men together in an affirming environment that embraces the diversity of gay male culture. Magnet is a place where gay men can access resources and each other to promote individual and community health.
Collaboration is the key to our success, and includes health providers, community members as well as Castro area merchants and residents. Current collaborators include: the AIDS Health Project; Blow Buddies; Berkeley Gay Men's Health Collective; the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies; Eros; the Eureka Valley Promotion Association; the HIV Prevention Planning Council; the Merchants of Upper Market & Castro; San Francisco Department of Public Health; San Francisco General Hospital; and the Stonewall Project. Numerous other retail businesses participate in our programs as well. Magnet continues to seek input in its development and growth through our active Community Advisory Board.
